Q: Are there changes in my diet that I can make to raise my HDL?

Are there changes in my diet that I can make to raise my HDL? I'm a 37 years old woman who just had a massive heart attack two weeks ago, and had to have a stent put in the front LAD which was 95 percent blocked. All others were completely clear.

My overall cholesterol is 159, LDL: 78, HDL 37. I need to raise the HDL.  I eat rather healthy, never using salt...never anything fried...and make a point to eat low fat and low sugar items.

Help!

I am planning to start cardio - rehab in two weeks which should help with the HDL, but I'm not sure how much it will help to raise it.

Hi Ryansmom,

Being physically active is a major step in the right direction, so beginning rehab and physical activity is an important step.
