Both medications belong to the statin category of cholesterol lowering drugs. “Which drug is beter?” is a battle that has been raging for a few years now, since Zocor (simvastatin) has gone generic, threatening Lipitor’s supremacy. Suffice it to says that at the highest doses, Lipitor is able to lower cholesterol more than Zocor. Having said that, realize that very few people are at maximum dose and can probably achieve similar drops using either medication, with simvastatin being much cheaper.
