Zetia is a lipid lowering agent that is manufactured by the Schering-Plough Corporation. Unlike statin medications that work in the liver, Zetia's action takes place in the intestine and blocks the absorption of cholesterol from the gastrointestinal tract. This results in a lower level of cholesterol circulating in the bloodstream.
