Q: Should I be concerned because HDL is low?

My total cholesterol is 77, HDL only 30, LDL 37 and Tri 52...my father had similar numbers for decades and had a heart attack out of the blue at the age of 70.  His arteries are so blocked that it looks like a string of pearls.  His body created bypassing "veins" to heart by itself and that has kept him alive.  I am 41 years old,  5'11, 182lbs and run/cycle/lift weights 5-6 times a week.

Hi Jim,

 

A high HDL level is usually desirable as HDL "picks up" cholesterol deposited in the arteries helping to prevent arterial plaque build up. Here is a link to information:
