Topics:Low Triglycerides

My doctor put me on Lovaza for high LDL. I did a recent blood test and it came back with lower HDL and Triglycerides and LDL.

CHOL - 212

Triglycerides - 279 mg/dl

HDL - 37 mg/dl

VLVL - 56 mg/dl

What can I do to raise the Triglycerides and not the LDL?

David

Hi David,

I am a little confused on why you want to raise your triglycerides.  You want your triglyceride level to get below 130, so you want to keep it going down.  A diet that lowers triglycerides (low simple sugars, replace saturated fat with healthy unsaturated fatsn increased physical activity, etc.) will promote lower LDL levels and increase HDL.  You want to get your HDL above 60 and the best bet to accomplish that is by increasing your physical activity.  If you are fairly sedentary, simply adding a 30 minute walk most evenings will help.

Hey David, I am not sure how to go back and edit my previous answer, so I'll just post another answer.

You want triglycerides to be lower 200 and LDL below 130.  Typo above in my answer.
