Hi Nasim,
Lean body mass equals the weight of your muscle, bones, organs, etc. minus the fat. In order to calculate body fat and lean body mass you need to know two things.
1. Your weight
2. Your body fat percent
Formula to calculate pounds of body fat:
Weight x Body fat percent (in decimal form) = Body fat (lbs.)
Formula to calculate pounds lean body mass:
Weight (lbs.) - Body fat (lbs.) = Lean body weight (lbs.)
Here's an example for someone that weight 200 lbs. with 22% body fat.
200 x .22 = 44 lbs. body fat
200 - 44 = 156 lbs. lean body mass
If this person's goal was to drop to 18% body fat, he would need to lose 8 pounds of body fat.
200 x .18 = 36 lbs. body fat
44 - 36 = 8 lbs. extra body fat
