Q: Taking a soy lecithin supplement and Omega 3 supplement help lower your cholesterol and triglyceride

I'm asking because once my triglycerides level was high (219) and a friend who is a physical therapist recommended taking the supplements and I did.  I had a blood test done like 4 weeks after starting them and they did go down, back to normal levels.  No side effects, nothing.  But now I'm just wondering if it's safe or not to take these supplements.  Thanks in advance.

Hi Gabby,

 

Congratulations on lowering your cholesterol and triglycerides - great job!

 

I have not researched soy lecithin extensively, so I'm not going to address that supplement, but I will tell you that omega 3 is safe and recommended to reduce cholesterol levels.  By supplementing omega 3 fatty acids you improve the ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids in your diet.  This is beneficial for reducing inflammation problems and heart disease risk.
