I want to reduce my triglycerides.

bharat
08/16/08

I am having mild hypertension. Recently I got my lipid profile examined. My triglycerides is 406.00, LDL is 63.30, VLDL is 81.20, TC/HDL Ratio is 5.31, LDL/HDL Ratio is 1.89 , total cholesterol is 178.00 and HDL is 33.50.

As I had reduced my exercise and yoga habit recently this has resulted in an  increase in the  cholesterol level. Now I am only taking  a mild hypertension medicine  AT PURE 12.5  and I am not taking any other medicine.

Since yesterday I have re- started my walking  habits.

Pleae suggest some good medicine which will be available in India and also other related advices to get rid of unwanted cholesterol and keep me fit and lead a healthy and long life.

Hi Bharat,

I want to give you a few tips for reducing your triglycerides and boosting your HDL.

Ideally triglycerides should be less than 200 mg/dL and HDL above 60 mg/dL.

It's great that you've added exercise back into your routine.  Physical activity will boost HDL and lower triglycerides.  Physical activity should be a minimum of 30 minutes 3 days each week can reduce triglycerides up to 40%, while being active at least 30 minutes 5 days each week will boost HDL.  Here's an article on raising HDL - Long workouts best for raising good cholesterol.

Now for lowering triglycerides, several other factors play a role.  Sugar and alcohol have the greatest impact.  If you drink alcohol, I recommend eliminating it until you can control of your triglycerides (you may need to permanently restrict your intake).  Sugars, such as soft drinks, candy, and baked goods, will elevate triglycerides.

You'll find more information on how to lower triglycerides in this article -

Triglycerides: Why the matter and how to lower them

This article goes into more details on the following five areas:

1. Sugars

2. Alcohol

3. Weight Control

4. Low fat diet

5. Activity

All the best,
