heart disease and stroke risk

Hi!  I am a 47 caucasion male whose all 4 grandparents died of heart disease or stroke.  My total chlesterol is 245, my HDL is 75, my LDL is 159m and triglycerides are 53.  Would medications be indicated?

Unfortunately, you have at least 2 risk factors for cardiovascular disease: high cholesterol (though your “good cholesterol” is elevated) and bad genes.  The good news is that your numbers may be able to improve.  First, you need to perform serious lifestyle modifications, by trying to lose weight, eating low fat foods, and exercising.  If this doesn’t work then medications will likely be necessary.
