Hi Milwkat,

No, other cholesterol medications have the potential to cause muscle pain as well, such as fenofibrates (i.e. Tricor) and cholesterol absorption inhibitors (i.e. Zetia).

I cannot take any of the statins because they cause muscle and joint pain.  Is there any other medication that lowers cholesterol that is not a statin?

Hi Jerry,

Unfortunately, I'm not the best resource when it comes to medication options.  I'd start with quizzing your pharmacist, as well as, discussing options with your physician.  Now, when it comes to diet/lifestyle changes to lower cholesterol you're right up my alley:)

Good luck finding an appropriate medication for your situation.
