Hi Johncw,

Lipitor and Zetia are 2 medications that can be used to help patients lower cholesterol. They can be taken together because they have different mechanisms of action, which means they work to lower cholesterol differently. This combination can be beneficial to use in patients who haven't achieved their cholesterol goals by using 1 medication alone, and is actually used quite frequently.

Thanks for your question!

Jill

This video animation shows how cholesterol behaves in the blood stream. Cholesterol is a soft, fat-like, waxy substance found in the bloodstream and in all your body's cells.
