My tryglcerides ar high,is this the onset of diabetes
My tryglcerides are high, never have I had a high tryglceride level, and my blood sugar is within range, does mean I have the onset of diabetes.
steve,
Thanks for your question.
Triglyceride levels are closely linked to blood sugar levels. High triglycerides do not cause diabetes, but if the sugar levels are not controlled, the triglycerides can rise significantly. Though your sugars may be in the normal range when checked, they may be elevated after meals and then return to normal after digestion is complete. This could be due to inadequate insulin levels.
The best indicator of the presence of diabetes is a Hemoglobin A1c level, which gives an idea of what the sugar levels have been over the prior 10 weeks. Discuss this with your physician and ask if he would do this simple blood test to see if you have diabetes. If the test is normal, then you and your doctor need to concentrate on your triglyceride levels, by changing your lifestyle and diet as the first step. If this should fail after an adequate trial, then medication may be in order.
Best wishes.
