Q: foods for lowering cholesterol?

Hi Hattie,

 

Here are 3 areas to focus on for lowering cholesterol:

 

1. Replace saturated fats (whole or 2% milk, high fat meats, butter, shortening, etc.) in your diet with unsaturated fats (low fat milk, lean meats, light margarine, canola oil, etc.).

2. Increase dietary fiber (whole grain breads, pasta, cereals, fruits, vegetables)

3. Increase omega 3 intake - Two options for increasing omega 3 fatty acid intake: 1. Increase fish intake. 2. Increase ground flaxseed use.
