Q: Lipitor 80 mg and Tricor interaction

I'm taking 80 mg of Lipitor daily, Im 62 years old 210 lbs 6.0 ft tall.  My family has a history of high chlorestol and heart attachs.  My doctor recently put me on Tricor.  I did not know you shouldn,t take both drugs together and have had skin rashes that look like chemical burns on lower legs, arms, chest and head and they itch ver badly.  I took the Tricor for about a month an when the itching got bad I quit taking Tricor.  I went back to the doctor and he said I should start taking the Tricor again.  Taking the Tricor at bedtime and the Lipitor in the morning.  Will that solve the reaction problem between these two drugs.  I am concerned and have not started taking the Tricor again.  Is there any other drugs that I could take instead of these drugs that would help lower LDL and increase HDL.
