Q: total cholesterol 224, hdl 78, triglycerides 74, ldl 132 -,bp 110/ 70 do i need med thank you.

48, exercise 5-6x times week, eggs 6x week, enjoy cheese, eat veggies, soy, beans

Hi Lisa,


Here are the recommendations of the American Heart Association:

 

Total cholesterol less than 200
HDL cholesterol at least > 40, ideally > 60
LDL cholesterol at least less than 130, ideally less than 100
Triglycerides less than 150

 

Even though your total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol are slightly elevated, I think your labs look quite good.  Great job keeping your HDL elevated and staying active!  Whether or not medication is necessary is a decision to be made with your physician.
