Q: What Effect Does A Cortisone Shot Have On Cholesterol levels?

My cholesterol jumped about 75 points after several cortisone shots in my spine. My doctor says the cortisone does not affect cholesterol levels, but in the past I have had extreme reactions to cortisone.

Hi Ann,

I did a quick check and did not find elevated cholesterol as a typical side effect of cortisone. Cholesterol levels elevate as part of the healing process and maybe that is linked to what you are experiencing, but that is just a guess. I recommend investigating further with your physician.
