I drink about two 5-6 oz glass a wine a day. Is the wine contributing to my inability to lose lbs
I am approx 6' tall weigh about 193lbs. No matter what I do I cant seem to lose (desire) 10 lbs which concentrated mostly in my belly. Although not extremely overweight I still want to cut back 10 lbs.
I eat healthy and drink about two glasses of Merlot (red) wine a day. Also eat "healthy popcorn" frequently.
Take BP medication and crestor. Cholesterol really below 200 but since I had a stent put in about 6 months ago Dr. wants me on crestor and Pravlix.

Hi Robert,
Alcohol provides 7 calories per gram and can lead to excess calories resulting in weight gain. One 4 oz glass of wine has around 100 calories. If you reduced your wine intake to 1-4 oz glass a day, you would reduce your daily calorie in take by 200 calories. This would lead to a gradual weight loss of 1 pound every 2-3 weeks. Slow going, but would make a difference.
Studies indicate that alcohol can stimulate your appetite, another pro for cutting back to 4 oz/day.
