Hi Robert,   Alcohol provides 7 calories per gram and can lead to excess calories resulting in weight gain. One 4 oz glass of wine has around 100 calories.  If you reduced your wine intake to 1-4 oz glass a day, you would reduce your daily calorie in take by 200 calories.  This would lead to a gradual weight loss of 1 pound every 2-3 weeks.  Slow going, but would make a difference.     Studies indicate that alcohol can stimulate your appetite, another pro for cutting back to 4 oz/day.    You can learn more at 8 simple ways to lose weight and prevent obesity.   All the best,   Lisa Nelson, RD, LN Lower Cholesterol, Control Blood Pressure, Lose Weight
