Q: My LDL is 110, HDL 87. I run 10m/day. strong fmh hd. no other risk factors. Should i lower ldl?

I am female, 48, and have been running over 25 years. My triglycerides are 74.  My father had his first MI at 45.  His brother died at 50 from heart disease. Another brother died in his 60s also from heart disease.  My mother does not have heart disease (she is 74), but  her 2 older sisters, and an older brother have all had MIs.  We eat red meat 2x per week, and eat some cheese, skim milk, occasional egg.  Should I try to lower my LDL?

Hi Maureen,

No, you do not need to lower your LDL.  Due to your strong family history, you do need to stay vigilant and do all you can to keep yourself heart healthy; however, you're numbers are great and your activity superb.  Keep up the good work!

All the best,
