Hi Cindy,   Since your husband's cholesterol is greater than 240 mg/dl he falls into the high risk category.    Less than 200 mg/dl = desirable 200-239 = Borderline-High Risk >240 = High Risk   So, yes, this is dangerous and he needs to take steps to lower his cholesterol levels.  I recommend you first look at his lipid profile (LDL, HDL, and triglycerides).  If you do not understand what the labs mean, read this post Making Sense of Cholesterol Ratios, Lipid Profiles and Your Heart Disease Risk Scores.    After you understand his lab results, go here to learn more about a diet to lower cholesterol.  Consult with his MD for the best treatment plan.   All the best,   Lisa Nelson, RD, LN The Heart of Health - Heart Health and Weight Loss Tips
