Q: Did I have a reaction to Vytorin? If I did, what are my options?

I am a 35 yr old male who works out but is 10 lbs overweight.  My bad cholesterol is 250.  A week ago, my doctor put me on Vytorin.  In that week, I also caught a cold.  In the past two days,I have developed pain in my elbows (one day in the right and the following day in the left elbow), a heavy feeling in my joints  and I have become very light headed or dizzy.  My chest is also full of phlegm.  I don't know if this is a result of my cold or the Vytorin.

Is this a reaction to Vytorin?  If it is, what are my options?

Hi Jffrederick3,

Vytorin is a combination medication of Zocor and Zetia used to lower cholesterol in patients. One of the side effects sometimes associated with Zocor is muscle pain/ weakness. It sounds as though most of your symptoms are probably associated with your cold, however, I would suggest that if they don't resolve within a few more days, or they get worse, to contact your doctor. If your doctor decides that you did have a reaction to Vytorin, there are other medications (from the same or different class of medication) you can try to help lower your cholesterol.

Thanks for your question!
