Q: Is there any difference between lovastatin and simvastatin?

Hi Chuck,

 

The two medications are very similiar, such as both are derived from fungi and  must be hydrolyzed to the active hydroxy acid. However, one difference is that lovastatin absorption is impacted by food intake while simvastatin is not. I recommend discussing with your physician and/or pharmacist to fully understand the difference between the two medications.
