My mom's Triglyceride Level is 392, is it very high?? what should she do to reduce it
Hi Singh Family,
A triglyceride level of 392 mg/dL falls within the borderline high category. Ideally should be less than 200 mg/dL (some MD's prefer less than 150 mg/dL depending on your mothers situation) and very high would be >500 mg/dL.
Here's an article with tips specific to lowering triglycerides - Triglycerides: Why they matter and how to lower them.
Triglycerides are impacted the most by sugar and alcohol. So, if your mother likes to have a drink or two of alcohol regularly, I'd start with cutting back there (ideally no alcohol until triglycerides are under control). Sugars to watch include sweetened drinks (soda, sweet tea, sweetened coffee, etc.) and baked goods (cookies, cake, brownies, etc.), and sweets (candy).
The article I suggested above will give additional steps to lower triglycerides.
All the best,
