Q: Beer and High cholesterol.

My husband drinks 60 cans of beer on the weekends could this be a cause for his high cholesterol.

Hi Nell,

 

Yes, alcohol does impact cholesterol.  Here are two ways:

 

1.  Direct impact on triglycerides.  If his triglycerides are elevated, probably linked to alchol intake.

 

2.  Weight gain - Sixty cans of beer each weekend equals a significant chunk of calories that may lead to weight gain which affects cholesterol levels and heart health.
