Q: 32 year old female, veg, no alcohol or smoking with elevated cholesterol of 216

I am a 32 years old female, have been vegetarian since birth, never consumed alcohol or smoked. My cholesterol is 216. I don't exercise much. I have long working hours and stressful work environment. Can just stress cause increased level of cholesterol? What can I do to lower my cholesterol? I wanted to start walking regularly but being in Massachusetts, it was awfully cold so could not maintain a routine. Please help.
