Monday, June 20, 2011 Nancy asks

Q: 47 year old female.. doctor called with results. Total C 224, LDL 148, HDL 65. weigh 100lbs, 5'2 and eat very heatly, no red meat. Dr wants me on meds. I do not think I need them.

Hi Nancy,

 

Here are the recommendations of the American Heart Association:


Total cholesterol less than 200
HDL cholesterol at least > 40, ideally > 60
LDL cholesterol at least less than 130, ideally less than 100
Triglycerides less than 150

You are correct!  Contrary to the guidlines your cholesterol levels are fine.  read here:
