Nutrim is a way to add fiber (beta-glucans) to your diet. Increasing fiber in your diet is one way to promote a lower cholesterol level. Potential side effects would be minimal. If you do not eat a high fiber diet or suddenly started using high quantities of Nutrim you could deal with gastrointestinal issues, such as diarrhea. I would still discuss the supplement with your physician to ensure it doesn't interfere with your particular treatment plan.
