morad rafael,   Thanks for your question.   Lipitor (generic - atorvastatin) is a cholesterol lowering medication that lowers total cholesterol, LDL, and raises good cholesterol known as HDL.  This is not a layered medication and it is "timed release".    There is no problem in breaking the pill to accommodate your prescribed dosing.    I hope this has been helpful.   Martin Cane, M.D.
