44 year old man. some health issues. more to come...

12/07/08

About on e year ago I had HIGH triglycerides (670), but after months of med and changed diet and excersize, those TRi's came down to 200. That was June 2008.  Now six months later my triglycerides are 1909 (results this Friday).  I have been taking Tricor 145mg for several months now.

I had gone back to bad eating and excercize routines when I left me job 3 months ago.

I am very VERY worried I cant reverse this fast enough.  Any help on how I can survive this SPIKE?

Thank you

Hi Mark,

You need to do a complete 180 with your eating.  You made the changes successfully in the past, so you know what works, it's just a matter of getting back on track.

Two significant diet factors to adjust ASAP would be alcohol and sugar intake.  I recommend NO alcohol until your triglycerides are under control and strictly limit the simple sugars in your daily diet.

Next, up your activity.  Adding more physical activity is a great tool to combat the high triglyceride level.

For additional tips check out this article:  Triglycerides: Why they matter and how to lower them.

Of course, you need to consult your MD to determine additional steps appropriate to your situation.

All the best,

This video animation shows how cholesterol behaves in the blood stream. Cholesterol is a soft, fat-like, waxy substance found in the bloodstream and in all your body's cells.
