Q: What is the recommended daily level of sodium for heart healthy diet?

I just had a stent for 99% blockage and angioplasty for 90% blockage and have a remaining 60% blockage of a heart artery.  I have been told to adopt a heart healthy diet.  I was not given dietary limits when I left hospital, just lists of some food choices. I have been able to find limits on things like <7% fat calories daily, <200 cholesterol, and caloric recommendations, but not sodium recommendations.  I have found that even raw chicken can contain sodium so I need guidelines.

Hi Txgal51,

 

Restricting sodium to 2300 mg per day or less is linked to lower blood pressure and reduced heart disease risk.
