Q: What might cause HDL to go lower?

My HDL has been over 60 for many years. I am an ardent cardiovascular exerciser and eat a healthy diet. My recent blod test showed my HDL at 50. It has never been anywhere near that low and was 63 last year. What might cause such a drop? I am very concerned and can't find any info on this particular issue.

Hi Jason,

Have you made changes to your fat intake?  Restricting fat, specifically heart healthy fats too much can make it difficult to raise/maintain HDL ("good") cholesterol levels.
