Hi Ona,   Being diagnosed with high cholesterol can be a scary time, but there are steps you can take to bring you numbers down where they need to be.  However, the best intervention depends on what numbers need to be changed.  For example, if you HDL is too low increasing your physical activity will have the most impact or if your triglycerides are too high, limiting simple sugars and alcohol will be the first step.    I encourage you to submit another question and provide your lab values, so we can give you the most appropriate tips.   Also, I recommend you stop thinking in the "diet" mindset.  The term diet implies a short term plan.  If you want long term success controlling you cholesterol levels you need to make permanent changes.  It's best to look at your current food and activity choices and implement small changes that you can stick with.   You can find information on a diet to lower cholesterol here.   All the best,   Lisa Nelson, RD, LN Heart Health and Weight Loss Tips
