Hi Cathy, Glad you discussed niacin with your physician. Statin meds versus niacin - They serve different functions as far as lowering cholesterol levels or raising HDL levels. Potential negative side effects are much greater with statin meds. However, work with your physician to determine the best treatment approach for you.
