Q: How does treatment for Lithuanian mutation del197 differ from other forms of high cholesterol

currently treatments for all causes of familial hypercholesterolimia are the same. that may change if/ when gene therapy becomes available. according to the study below del197 is 1 of 15 different gene problems that cause high cholesterol

Treatment will depend on many factors: your specifics, your doctor, your other risk factors, family history, to name just a few. in general the treatment(s) will be the same as for non-FH but for higher doses if drugs are perscribed and multiple treatments.. you may also require additional treatments for specific side effects of extreme hypercholesterolemia.  A genitic screening of any children you may have is also probably a good idea...

if you were diagnosed with the mutation surely your doctors have already suggested lifestyle changes and treatments. are you asking about alternatives here?

I would like to know what the latest suitable diet is for Lithuanian mutation del197

 

different poeople / doctors / dieticians  say different things

 

1).   EGGS

some say do not eat egg yolks ; some eat egg yolks raw ; some say not to eat raw egg  yolks because of salmonella??? if one should eat raw egg yolks in what quantities? some say it is all right  to eat cooked egg yolks!  in what quantities?

 

2).     WHITE CHEESE

1/2% Fat; or 4% Fat or 5% to 9% Fat ?????

 

3).     OLIVE OIL

1/2 a cup of Olive Oil with Lemon juice every morning; or

3 table spoons of Olive Oil with Lemon juice every morning; or

 no Olive Oil with Lemon juice every morning?????

 

I take 10 mg ezetrol in the morning

and 80 mg lipitor in the evening

I also exercise regularly
