Cholesterol Drug Information

Fenofibrate is used along with diet and exercise to help control levels of blood fats. It can help lower "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL). In general, this drug is used after your blood fat levels have not been fully controlled by non-drug treatments (e.g., diet changes, exercise, decreasing alcohol intake, weight loss if overweight, and controlling blood sugar if diabetic).

This medication is a combination of two drugs, ezetimibe and simvastatin. It is used along with a proper diet to help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and fats (triglycerides) in the blood while raising good cholesterol (HDL). This product is generally prescribed after non-drug treatment (e.g., diet change, increase in exercise, weight loss if overweight) has not been fully successful at lowering cholesterol. Reducing your cholesterol and fats help prevent strokes and heart attacks. Ezetimibe works by reducing the amount of cholesterol your body absorbs from your diet. Simvastatin is an enzyme blocker (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor), also known as a "statin," which reduces the amount of cholesterol that your body makes normally each day.

This medication is used either alone or with other drugs (e.g., HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or "statins"), along with a low cholesterol/low fat diet, to help lower cholesterol in the blood. Reducing cholesterol helps prevent strokes and heart attacks.
