Bad Cholesterol Supplements

Even a small boost in good cholesterol can reduce heart attack risk

With all the attention given to lowering LDL ("bad") cholesterol, people often overlook the benefits of raising HDL ("good") cholesterol levels. The Mayo Clinic has recently reported that raising HDL cholesterol by as little as 1 milligram per deciliter (mg/dL) of blood can reduce a person's risk of having a heart attack by as much as 3 percent. Some statins, a class of drugs called fibrates, and the supplement niacin have all been found to be effective in raising HDL cholesterol levels. Read more »
