Scientists say people who have high cholesterol may be much more at risk for human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA), a disease transmitted by ticks. Researchers infected mice with the bacteria that cause HGA. Mice who had high cholesterol levels developed 10 times more bacteria in their systems than the mice with lower cholesterol levels. Scientists say their results show that HGA bacteria thrives in hosts with high cholesterol, and this makes the host's HGA worse. Read more »
