Study: Topamax improves alcoholics' quality of life

The anti-seizure and migraine drug Topamax may not only improve drinking problems in alcoholics, it may boost their quality of life as well, according to a new study. Researchers gave 371 patients either Topamax or a placebo daily for 14 weeks. The team found that, compared with placebo patients, those on Topamax experienced a drop in alcohol-related obsessions and compulsions, and they had a greater improvement in their weight, liver function, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure.
