In an effort to compete with new generic formulas, Zocor maker Merck will continue to sell the brand-name form of the drug at a reduced price for the first six months that the generics are available. Merck's price reduction for Zocor has enticed some health plans to raise co-payments on either the generic simvastatin or on Zocor, depending on which drugmaker negotiated the lowest price.
