Australian researchers have found that the pain medication diclofenac (Voltaren) may pose the same cardiovascular risk as the withdrawn COX-2 inhibitor Vioxx. The researchers say their study's results indicate that the medication should not be used by people with heart disease or high blood pressure. Diclofenac, which is available by prescription in the United States and as an over-the-counter drug overseas, is one of the most popular pain relievers in the world.
