British doctors worry U.S.'s "aggressive" cholesterol treatment carries too much risk

The American National Cholesterol Education Program has lowered the target LDL cholesterol levels for high-risk individuals to levels that may only be attainable through increased statin use and higher dosages. Some British researchers are concerned that helping patients reach these levels will cause huge jumps in adverse side effects without actually reducing cholesterol-related mortality rates.
