A study has found that niacin-based Niaspan was more effective than Crestor or Zocor at reducing levels of triglycerides and certain types of LDL (bad) cholesterol, as well as at increasing HDL (good) cholesterol. The study, which also included Lipitor, was funded by Kos Pharmaceuticals, maker of Niaspan.
