Though eating soy has been promoted as a way to lower cholesterol,
researchers say they've failed to find evidence that soy has any
positive effect on cholesterol levels. In the Australian study,
investigators recruited 35 men and 58 women who had mildly high
cholesterol levels. The participants were then assigned to rotate
through one of three diets--each of which had varying amounts of
