New drug effective for acute schizophrenia

According to a recent study, a new drug called lurasidone is safe and effective for treating patients hospitalized for acute schizophrenia. The study looked at the effects of the experimental drug in 829 patients who were given either 40, 80, or 120 mg doses of lurasidone for up to six weeks. The researchers found that patients taking the 120 mg dose showed more improvement in their schizophrenia symptoms than patients taking the lower doses.
