Researchers say high levels of good cholesterol protect people from heart disease and stroke no matter what their blood levels of bad cholesterol are. In a recent trial, heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular problems were 40 percent lower in the patients who had the highest levels of good cholesterol, regardless of how high their bad cholesterol levels were.
