A device called the Liposorber is being used to remove bad cholesterol from the blood of people with extremely high levels of cholesterol. The machine works by removing the blood, straining out the bad cholesterol, and then returning the blood to the patient's body. Most Liposorber patients have a genetic component to their high cholesterol, and they have usually tried diet, exercise, and medication to lower their cholesterol without success.
