Knowing cholesterol levels may protect against heart disease

Doctors say many people who are taking cholesterol-lowering drugs assume their cholesterol numbers are okay, but this is often not the case. Experts say everyone over age 20 should have their cholesterol checked every five years, and if their numbers are too high, they should be begin treatment to avoid heart disease. In this article, a health reporter talks to one woman who didn't know her cholesterol numbers, and she therefore wasn't aware that the high levels were already doing damage to her heart.  Read full story >
