Seniors who have coronary artery disease and take statins receive no added benefits from adding the B vitamin niacin to their drug regimen, a new study suggests. In the study of 145 men and women over age 65, scientists found no measurable difference in the reduction of artery wall thickness between those who took 1,500 mg of extended-release niacin plus a statin per day and those who took only a statin every day.
