Questions Raised About Peripheral Artery Disease Test

Results from a new Scottish study have raised questions about the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD). The scientists say the ankle-brachial index--a test commonly used to diagnose blood-vessel problems in the legs--is not effective at screening for the condition. Investigators also found that prescribing low-dose aspirin to people whose ankle-brachial index indicated potential PAD risk did not reduce this risk, but it did increase their chances of major bleeding incidents.  Read full story >
