Non-Stick Cookware, Waterproof Fabrics May Boost Cholesterol in Kids

Chemicals used in the manufacture of non-stick cookware and waterproof fabrics may be absorbed into children's blood and increase their levels of bad cholesterol, new research suggests. The chemicals, known as perfluoroalkyl acids, primarily affect the liver, researchers say. They have been detected in virtually all samples of human blood in a new national survey, since people are exposed to varying levels of these types of acids through dust, food packaging, breast milk, microwave popcorn, and drinking water.
