Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 08:55 PMMy boyfriend was in the same position & going 4-7 days without sleep...as last resort would def. reccomend pump; however make sure you have a reputable dr. who will be in practice a long time & is willing to work with your personal physician to manage your pain & future medical problems as the pump & medication has major interactions with a lot of drugs used to treat other medical conditions....flu, nausea & such.....good luck & god bless....good luck and I hope you don't go thru what my boyfriend has as he is being tortured & I expect won't continue much longer unless he can find another qualified dr. who can address what's going on with his problems.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 02:43 AMI waited to have surgery until I started going paraylized in the left leg...no sleep for 3-4 days then binge sleeping. Even after the failed surgery same pain; no medication helped other than the duragesic patches 75 mg...worked great except in hot weather...the makes you dissy. Until start going days without sleeping, eating or moving...I would'nt consider the pump...but if that's the case I would do it all over again...just wish the doctors would be honest & upfront about the recall issues and not have to stumble across 2 major life threatening recalls online after having 2-3 yrs of problems w/ pump.
Best of wishes & good luck....I'm no doctor & would certainly rec. a 2nd opinion before you do anything...main thing is have your family dr. on board w/ your pain mgmt dr.; that's very important due to illnesses & drugs you can take & not take.
Best of luck & God Bless,

What's happening now

Monday, November 09, 2009 at 07:52 PMI'm sorry that I have just recently discovered this site & specifically your situation; I have a little bit of memory compared to what I had before I started the opiates that have made it possible for me to have a life, be it ever so humble. My heart reaches out to you (I don't think I've ever said that to another person, but I mean to phrase it precisely that way);if this reaches you I would be very grateful for a response from you or if you are not able to answer, from someone in your family or friends who is able to explain where you are now, fighting for your life. I have chronic pain & a history of botched attempts to stop it, however it is nothing compared with what you have endured. You have struggled heroically, it seems, . I am reaching out as a pain veteran to another & am hopeful that some refief has gotten to you.

Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 02:58 AMThanks for the e-mail..no relief yet & still unable to find primary care dr. who will take me under his wing & ref. me to a reputable pain pump specialist. Pain pump gave me 3-4 yrs of pain free living 85% free but able to sleep every night & took no meds., don't drink or drug. Went back to work like an idiot when I could have took disab. $4,000 a month & retire...but all the dr.s said it would get better & it's gotten worse. Out of sick time, no income going to try going back to work & keep looking for a dr. to take my case. I have an insider to the company who is helping put together a class action lawsuit...I'll have more details in the future. I cannot believe patients were not notified when this pump can stop, temp. stall or completely fail & you pass our & injure or kill someone...how they sleep at night is beyond me. But thanks for the e-mail and let me know your story...sounds like you have the same model...did you get notice from Medtronics or your dr about the 2 FDA Level 1 recalls on the pump, what to look for and when to pull your vehical over at the first sign of problems...Mine didn't & I was blacking out everywhere...thank God I didn't hurt or kill an innocent person due to this.
Take care & God Bless,
Mary

I am so sorry you are going through this. A pain pump was suggested to me as a last resort, but haven't really discussed in lenthg yet. I do have a questions tho. Well, maybe two. How often does it get filled and how do they fill it? Are you put under? Isn't it put under the skin? After trying everything else out there for my problem I rsorted to surgery which I wish so much I never had. I had fusion of L1-2 and L3-4, plus stenosis and bone spurs. I have been in agony ever since. I had to have my son and daughter-in-law move in with me because I can no longer cook, clean shop or do most anything I use to do. My surgery was about a year and a half ago wwith no relief and certainly nothing fixed pain wise that I can tell. I am so depressed all the time I can hardly function. I've learned to read books, one after the other to keep my mind involved and maybe escape for a while. I would likw to keep corosponding with you if you like. Bless you.
